I think everyone will agree, Yves Saint Laurent is a total pillar of fashion, fragrance and cosmetics. YSL is known for classy elegance and innovation; look at their latest shoe lines - total trend setting! Their cosmetics and fragrances are also usually very sophisticated, but their latest perfume is targeting a new demographic. Young, Sexy, Lovely (YSL for short, not that creative if you ask me) is unquestionably an offering for the teens. A very tragic marketing decision considering it is flooded with sickeningly sweet pop-star fragrances by Britney Spears, Hillary Duff, Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton, etc. These are all fragrances that are so overtly floral and feminine that I cringe when I walk past someone who is wearing one of these bubble-gum scents. Why would Yves Saint Laurent bring themselves down to that level? I know that segment of the market has cash to burn, but at what cost to their reputation?
Young, Sexy, Lovely is definitely young but not so much
lovely or sexy. It smells like something you would encounter in a hallway at a junior high on girls that thought they were bring grown up by wearing perfume. The scent is described as "notes of pear, mandarin, and redcurrant, sweetened with cherry blossom and magnolia, cooled with peach, and tempered with musk, amber, and cedarwood." I thought perhaps the deeper notes would mellow the scent out, but there is nothing that could bring down those fruity top notes. I was incredibly disappointed that Yves Saint Laurent would try and pander to the Miley Cyrus crowd. I was definitely expecting much more from such an historically stylish brand.
