At the beginning of the screening, the producers from New York, I Love You asked that reviewers hold back their opinions of the film because it was a work in progress screening. That means that aspects like the editing or the music weren't final, so we weren't going to see a finished product. New York, I Love You is part of a series called the Cities of Love, in which the films are comprised of 12, 5 minute shorts, each directed by a different person, that show various love stories around the city. Paris was the first city (Paris, je t'aime',) then New York, with Shanghai to follow.
So I won't give a complete review until I see the final film, because you could definitely tell there were some rough spots, but overall it was pretty enjoyable to watch. C'mon who wouldn't want to see a series of little romantic stories set in an amazing city. And some of the vignettes were so utterly New York, that it made the city come to life. While I won't go into specifics, I will say that I did have some favorites, there were also a few that I felt fell a little flat; it could be that I just didn't really like the subject matter or filming techniques. Obviously the performances were varied (it has a pretty huge cast); some really stood out while others kind of fizzled. I would definitely go see it again when it's finished, and give a final review then, but I will say it had definite potential.
Here are some shots from the film:
