Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

This was the movie I was most excited about seeing this festival. I absolutely loved the book; it was so sweet and funny and I couldn't wait to see the film, especially since Michael Cera was set to star. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist had its world premiere last night at Ryerson theater, and as with the line for the Zac Efron movie, this line had its share of shrieking girls that went nuts for Michael Cera.

Pretty much the entire cast was on hand for the screening, which was really cool for the q&a session after the film. It looked like all of the stars got along really well, which means that shooting was probably a big party.

As the screening commenced, you could tell that the audience was so excited for it as they cheered and clapped as each star's name came onto the screen. For me, there was a lot of build up for Nick and Norah, but it totally didn't disappoint. Yes, it was a bit different than the book, but it maintained the integrity of the characters and the story. Michael Cera plays Nick, a Jersey boy bassist for a band called the Jerk Offs (although the band is always trying to think up new names, the grosser or more vulgar the better) and he was recently dumped by his girlfriend, Tris, totally devastating him. He is supposed to play a gig with this band but can't work himself up to playing until he hears his favorite band, Where is Fluffy, is playing at a mystery location in New York - of course he can't resist.

Norah, played by Kat Dennings, is the daughter of a famous music producer and best friends with party girl Caroline, played by Ari Graynor, also hear about the mystery concert and head into the city as well. Nick's ex Tris (Alexis Dziena) is quasi friends with Caroline, overhears her conversation with Norah about the concert, and she plans on going as well.

At Nick's band's set, Nick sees Tris with her new boy-toy, and Tris totally disses Norah by making fun of her lack of boyfriend. This inspires Norah to go find a guy and ask if he'll be her boyfriend for the next 5 minutes, and of course it's Nick whom she asks not realizing it's Tris' ex Nick who makes the awesome mixed cds she loves, until after their big kiss. It does the trick though, Tris can't believe Norah has a boyfriend, let alone that it's Nick.

And so the all night romp through New York begins that's filled with finding drunk Caroline to get her home, a Christmas drag show, a broken down Yugo, dealing with crazy ex-boyfriends/girlfriends, some of the nastiest pieces of gum, finding Where's Fluffy, and of course falling in love. It's a night Nick and Norah will never forget. And I loved every minute of it! Michael Cera was so great as Nick, and his awkwardness was so perfect for the role. Kat Dennings played the ultra cool music loving Norah just as I imagined her in the book. And the supporting cast was fantastic too, especially Ari Graynor (Caroline) and Jay Baruchel (who plays Norah's ex, Tal) who both added some memorable scenes. The movie was filled with some fabulously funny moments and some really gross ones too. Overall, loved it - it was everything I was hoping for.
