I've really gotten into running lately, but the one thing that bothered me was the fit of some of the running shorts. I know that fashion shouldn't be your main consideration when you're working out, but some of the shorts are so unflattering. I am not a spandex kind of girl, and the baggy short shorts are just brutal! Why can't you look cute while you're sweating, and wouldn't a self confidence boost help you run better? In my opinion, that would be a definite yes. While I was perusing the racks of heinous running shorts I came across an alternative: the running skirt, or I guess skort (the weird skirt/ short hybrid) would be a better
description. Now, I know what you're thinking, the skort was retired a long time ago and should stay in the fashion crime vault, but these skorts were pretty cute and so much better than most of the shorts. If you're thinking that this trend is just for those girls who think they are working out, but really just go to a gym to walk around looking pretty and not break a sweat, you're wrong. The latest issue of Runner's World did a whole article on the running skirt and all of the hard core marathoners that have been wearing them. I think a lot of the more traditional runners will refuse to wear them because they believe the skirt is too girly, but I dig it. And it looks like the trend is catching because most of the sports apparel giants are coming out with their own version including Nike, Lululemon, Adidas, New Balance, Puma and Sugoi. If you're looking for a change from the old standby running shorts, give the skirt a try, it may put a little more bounce in your step like it did for me.
