Usually when I think of a crossbody bag, the first thing that comes to mind is a messenger bag. I totally love the versatility of a messenger bag, but sometimes I wish they could be a little more sophisticated and less sporty. Messenger bags are almost always made of durable nylon, which is pretty difficult to dress up. The only bag that came close to being stylish was the Kate Spade Messenger bag, but even that is on the more casual side. It's about time someone jazzed up the messenger, and that trendsetter was none other than Marc Jacobs. As part of the Spring/Summer 09 line, the Asa Crossbody Bag was released as a more refined take on the functional carry all.

The Asa is a leather bag with a long narrow strap that fits comfortably across your body, or can be doubled to wear as a strap. The bag has tons of pocket space, and it's a nice size tote to carry whatever you need. I especially like the metallic finish of the leather (shown above and to the right in Silver and Bronze) because it enables the bag to transition from day to night. It's a chic reinvention of the messenger bag that will appeal to the working girl as well as the party girl. To read more about the Asa, visit Nordstrom.
