Cover Girl has really stepped up their game in the last few years, especially with the launch of their TruBlend collection and highly successful LashBlast mascara. I recently bought one of the TruShine lipsticks, part of the TruBlend line, which strives to provide cosmetics that compliment 97% of all skin tones. Cover Girl breaks down complexions into fair, medium and deep skin tones and then suggests shades that match these complexions in foundation, powder, concealer, blush, bronzer and lip color.I have a fair complexion, so I went to the corresponding TruShine Lipcolor section to find the right shade. I was torn between 415 - Blushberry Shine (which I read was a dead ringer for NARS Dolce Vita, a sheer lipstick that's kind of a dusty rose) and 435 - Cinnamon Shine. I opted for the Blushberry because I liked the rosy undertone which I thought would be a great spring day color. The lipstick's texture is a bit like a gloss stick, sheer color and quite a bit of shine. It goes on smoothly and gives your lips a nice bit of moisture. And surprisingly the color was very similar to Dolce Vita, a slightly deeper rose, but the Blushberry is a bit more pink with a shimmery finish. It's not a bad substitute for the Dolce though, and your can't beat the price ($8 for the TruShine, $22 for the NARS). My only complaint is that it fades more quickly than I would like.
Overall, I was pretty happy with the lipcolor and I kind of want to try out some of the other shades. I think women who don't usually wear makeup, or don't want to waste time messing around trying to find which colors compliment their skin would really like the no-fuss approach of the TruBlend collection.
