Smashbox O-Gloss

There has been a strange resurgence of custom tinting lip glosses on the market lately, or what I like to call mood glosses that were oh so cool back when bangs were lofty and pinch rolling was in. You know, the glosses, or chapsticks, that go on clear and then magically change into that perfect lip color, but would then turn into a heinous hot pink? For some reason a few major brands (Dior, Smashbox and Too Faced to name a few) have decided to launch their updated versions of the custom color glosses, which I hope are better than the chapsticks and glosses of the past.

I decided to tryout the Smashbox O-Gloss, a "silky gloss that reacts with your personal skin chemistry to transform from clear into your own custom shade of pink." This gloss has won awards from Allure Magazine and Sephora, so I was willing to give it a whirl. It comes in a little tube, and it's totally clear when you put it on your lips, and then after a few seconds, it does change into a fresh pink. My "custom shade" was a little darker than I was expecting, I guess it's because I have a rosy lip pigment to start with. To say I was relieved that my lips didn't come out fuchsia would be an understatement, and I was definitely impressed with the results. It's a smooth, non-sticky gloss with quite a bit of shine, which in my case, gave me a flattering bit of color.

It's one of those great grab and go products, when you need a little something on your lips but you don't have time or a mirror to use liner or lipstick. A word to the wise though, the tube is pretty small, and the price tag was higher than I expected, $22, and I don't know whether everyone would love their shade of pink. My advice would be to definitely try it out before purchasing a tube to know whether you'd truly like your custom shade. To read more about the O-Gloss, visit Smashbox.
