BeneFit Powderflage

I actually bought BeneFit's Powderflage a few months ago, but I didn't want to write about it until I gave it a really good trial period. The Powderflage is a very sheer light-diffusing powder concealer for under eyes & face. The light pink powder is so finely milled that is has an almost silk-like texture, and it has a hint of shimmer for light reflection. It can be worn alone to brighten dark circles, or it can be worn over concealer for heavier coverage.

To be totally honest the thing that really caught my eye about this product was the packaging: it comes in this super cute camo canister with pink writing. Then you open it up and the powder comes in this little pink ball that you unscrew to reveal the loose powder, and you apply the powder with this little fan brush that comes with it - it's irresistible. What can I say, I am a total sucker for good marketing. I was also interested in trying out a powder concealer/ illuminator. Every one I have tried has been in a cream or a cream that finishes as a powder, so I was curious to see how this little pink package would measure up.

When I tried the powder on its own without any concealer underneath, it wasn't enough coverage for my under eye area, and it didn't really illuminate either. I can't say I was surprised, I had a feeling it woulddn't offer enough coverage to be a true concealer, but I'm always willing to give it a go even when I am highly dubious. So then tried it over my concealer, as I would with any illuminator (like YSL's Touche Eclat), and the results were better, but not fantastic. The little (and when I say little, I mean TINY) fan brush makes for an awkward application, and even though the powder is super fine, it does settle into fine lines. Not what you want from any product that is supposed to brighten you up.

Over concealer, the Powderflage did do an alright job illuminating dark circles, but be careful how much you use, or can look very light and shimmery under your eyes. The overall effect was pretty good, but for the price, $28, for the size of the product, I would rather spend the money on the Touche Eclat, which I feel works better because it's tinted to your skin tone rather than baby pink. It's an interesting product that comes in an adorable package which some people really love, but I guess I'm not one of them. To read more about it, visit Benefit.
